The White Gate Services Thunder Modified Series made their way to Stafford Motor Speedway this past Sunday for the penultimate round of the 2011 campaign. Todd Taylor came into the George’s Auto Body 150 with a forty point advantage over two time titlist Jim Windrow in the standings while Bobby Ambroceo was looking to pick up a win at one of his favorite tracks.
The fireworks started early and came out often in the event as eleven caution flags slowed the event. Taylor, Windrow and Ambroceo made the statement early that they would be the class of the field as they led often as their led laps amounted to a total of 117 – with Taylor leading the most. Ryan Doucette showed his strength at the mid-way point of the feature as he youngster chased Taylor and held off Cori Bibbus in the closing laps before a late restart shuffled the running order. Windrow was among those who pitted under caution with ten laps left to go and took on two right side tires but with four cars ahead of him on pit exit, the #12 car had to take some evasive action to get his car into the top three. Bibbus would pit on the last lap of the event, handing Windrow second place behind the eventual winner Taylor.
Danny Savary ended up coming home with third place while Ryan and Joe Doucette completed the top five. Fourteen cars started the event with a dozen of those finishing. Fred Hill and Paul Strickland Jr ended up in the garage area early with problems to their race cars.
With one race to go, Taylor holds the point lead over Windrow and does not plan on changing his strategy heading into the final race this Sunday on RLMtv at Thompson. “When I play golf, I don’t let up,” said Taylor after his sixth win of the season. “I’m going into Thompson to win!”
