Moyers takes the Turkey; Watkins takes the Cup!

Sometimes in racing, the winner is determined by how well they can manage their pit stops. Just ask Joshua Moyers, who won the Southern Racing Online Championship race at Homestead Miami Speedway on Sunday, November 21. Despite an incredibly powerful performance by David Snyder, Moyers led a small contingency with only a handful of laps left to get gas.

“I knew that if we pitted with one to go [in the final caution], we would be in a good position,” Moyers said from Victory Lane. “We just had a good feeling…and we were able to win the race with that pit stop!”

Finishing behind Moyers was the 014 unsponsored Chevrolet Impala SS of Chris Pence, who started from the third positions. Pence, who was involved in an earlier accident bringing out one of four caution flags, managed his pit strategy to finish in the second place position. Andy Colleran, also driving an unsponsored Chevy, picked up third place, after starting in the 16th position! As his victory trophy, Moyers wins a smoked turkey direct from Greenberg Smoked Turkeys of Tyler, Texas!

The major victory of the night belonged to the Number 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger team of Andy Watkins, who won the 2010 SRO Cup. Watkins started in 21st, only nine points ahead of Jon Moore. Moore, who already won the SRO Truck and Nationwide championships, began the night in the 7th position, looking to make it a complete championship sweep. After getting involved in an accident towards the end of the race, Watkins had little trouble cruising to a win, and earning the cup by a margin of 43 points over Moore.
